Old Fashioned Milk Paint

is the faithful recreation of an ancient homemade paint formula, containing just milk protein (casein), lime and natural earth or mineral pigments, making it eco friendly, non-toxic, VOC-free, food-safe & biodegradable. 

Loved by woodworkers, furniture restorers and upcyclers, it is used as an authentic period finish on restored or reproduction furniture or other wood projects, to achieve vintage colour in a flat, chalky finish, quite unlike any other paint.

Milk paint arrives in powder form to be mixed with water - simply mix one part powder to one part water, When applied to a porous surface such as wood, milk paint sinks in and provides a breathable coating that will never chip or peel.  Add Extra Bond to use Milk Paint on non-porous surfaces too, such as previously painted or varnished furniture. Without the Extra Bond, Milk Paint will resist some pre-finished or pre-painted surfaces to achieve a naturally distressed or “chippy” look.

Farmhouse Finishes Safepaint

Farmhouse Finishes (formerly Safepaint for Walls) is a milk paint designed for use on walls and interiors. Our original formula was created for porous surfaces like wood and masonry. Farmhouse Finishes is formulated for use on non-porous surfaces such as previously painted walls. It will also adhere to other surfaces such as metal, or prior finished wood, cabinetry, furniture, etc. And you can certainly use it on porous surfaces like bare wood as well. 

Farmhouse Finishes still has the flat finish, but is much more uniform and consistent over a large area than the original formula. It is also washable once cured. Like original milk paint, it is made from elements that pre-date the use of petrochemicals and other toxic bases and solvents, it is biodegradable, non-toxic, and odor-free when dry. Farmhouse Finishes is perfect by those who are chemically sensitive and those sensitive to the need to protect the environment.
