OUR COLOR HISTORY

Old Fashioned Milk Paint's original milk paint colors were developed as exact replicas of colours used in the early American colonies, which would have been painted with home-made milk paint, with vivid colors and a most beautiful look of velvet. This was achieved by matching to the furniture and buildings shown at several restored in New England villages including Old Sturbridge Village, and museum displays in such places as Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Colonial Williamsburg and  Philadelphia Museum of Art. OFMP started with 8 colors in 1974 and now have 32 in the  Old Fashioned Milk Paint and Farm House Finishes Safe Paint lines and 50 in the Sweet Pickins Milk Paint line.

CHANGING COLORS

By producing batches of strong, rich colors we have made it easy to adjust tinting in order to make pastels as well as an infinite variety of other hues by mixing our colors together. Practically any color can be matched by the user, the same way that artists have done with oil paints for centuries.

Our paint is also available as a translucent Milk Paint Base, without pigment, for those who wish to start from scratch with their own universal tinting colors or other water-soluble pigments. Contact us if you are interested in ordering Milk Paint Base.
